On January 30, 2023, the Springbank Off-stream Reservoir Contractor plans to start controlled burn operations, 500 metres west of the Highway 22 intersection roundabout with Highway 8(Please see location map below for additional details).
Residents and public users of Highway 8 and Highway 22 can expect to see smoke and may experience visibility limitations at this location while burning is ongoing.
The controlled fire operations consist in burning residual slash piles and stumps, resulting from the 2022 tree clearing work, which was required for the construction of the Flood plain Berm and Auxiliary Spillway for the flood control of the Elbow River. These two infrastructures elements are part of the Springbank Off stream Reservoir Project currently under construction.
This work is expected to take place intermittently, during the first three weeks of February depending on wind conditions, and is being conducted in accordance with all relevant environmental an fire management regulations and requirements.
